NATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS (NATCOM)
The National Communications is prepared under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) and funded by United Nationals Environment Program (UNEP).
The National Communication outlines activities the Cook Islands has been carrying out to meet its requirements under the convention and how the country has moved towards addressing climate change since the initial national communications in 1999.
The Cook Islands is in progress of preparing its Third National Communications for completion in April 201
JOINT NATIONAL ACTION PLAN
The Joint National Action Plan II describes the Cook Islands response to the severe challenges presented by a range of hazards, most notable of which are cyclones, sea surges, flooding, droughts and climate change. It brings Climate Change (CC) and Disaster Risk Management (DRM) to the forefront of national planning.
INTENDED NATIONALLY DETERMINED CONTRIBUTIONS
In 2015, Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) came together under the Paris Agreement aiming at limiting global warming to 1.5 to 2 degrees C above pre-industrial levels. Through the Paris Agreement, Parties also agreed to a long-term goal for adaptation and to work towards making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.
Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are at the heart of the Paris Agreement and the achievement of these long-term goals. NDCs embody efforts by each country to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
In 2015, the Cook Islands submitted its first intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs).
